I have an idea for a self help group. The group would be called Sinners Nonymous. The A is removed to invert the idea of anonymity as a cornerstone and replacing it with transparency as a cornerstone.

When you confess your sins to another person it can lead to terribly painful revelations.

    It goes like this.

My name is Will Daly and I am an adulterer.

I have confessed sins in many ways. To a priest. To a partner. To everyone within line of site. I have experimented with multiple modalities of confession.

Short term it hurts a lot. Long term, it helps. You begin to see the world through fewer filters.

I have become a human lie detector.

    To Dunya,

Thank you for showing me kindness. Thank you for being approachable.

    To Everybody Else,

I want to encourage people to ask questions. I have a lot of books that are taking up space and are heavy to move. I decided to try and tickle two birds with one feather.

At Starbucks I layed out five books on the table and I made a sign.

    Books for inquisitive minds.
    Cost, 1 question.

    The books were:

The Woman Who Would Be King by Kara Cooney
David and Goliath by Malcolm Gladwell
Critical Thinking Skills for Dummes by Martin Cohen
Rewire Your Brain by John B Arden
    Influence by Robert B Cialdini

I gave it about one hour. No takers.

I spotted Dunya. Dunya is outgoing and approachable. She is also very intelligent according to my estimation. She was on her break. So I approached her.

But before I did, I asked myself what book would be a good match for the person I see. I chose the Woman Who Would Be King by Kara Cooney.

I told Dunya the book would cost her one question. She asked me if I read it. She did not assume. She asked. In her place, I might’ve assumed. But she didn’t. I call that smart.

    Yes was my response.

She then asked me what was the most important lesson I got from the book.

I thought for a bit and then I replied.

The lesson I took was this. No matter what you’ve got to start out with, there is always some way to use what you have to build a ladder towards success. I think this book is a good example to illustrate this idea.

Now that I think back, I actually got two questions for the price of one. Shhhhh! Don’t tell Dunya that I owe her another book.

Does anybody want a book? I have several copies of Influence by Robert B Cialdini.

I gave away my second book today.

I mean I sold my second book in exchange for a question today.

    The question was:

What is your favorite book any why?

My favorite book is the Moon is a Harsh Mistress by Robert A Heinlein.

The book I sold was Influence by Robert B Cialdini.

I did not ask permission to blog about this experience so I will withhold identifying information.

Yesterday I was meditating upon the angel Gabriel. I was inspired to learn about his ways and his character. I found his ways and his character to be a match for my own ideal self image. I have decided to become Gabriel and to use his form and his ways as inspiration and as a moral compass for myself for times when I become confused.

I intend to present myself to the world as Gabriel Just.

I intend to present myself to the world as an angel in learning.
